Labeling system

What is a labeling system?

A labeling system is a combination of hardware and software whose purpose is to produce and apply labels over items.

What does a labeling system consist of?

A labeling system consists of two elements: the label software and the hardware.

The label software is a computer program used to create or design labels. Modern label software allows users to create many different types of labels, including barcode labels, QR codes or even data matrix codes. All the user has to do is enter the information in the label software. The software then encodes the information in the format chosen by the user. Label software also allows the user to upload images or customize the shape and size of the label.

The hardware is the second component of a labeling system. It usually consists of a labeling machine that has been integrated into the product chain of the manufacturer. This way, the labeling process becomes faster and easier.

What types of labeling systems are there?

There are different types of labeling systems, including print and apply systems, only-apply systems and labeling systems that do not require the autonomous production of labels.

Print and apply labeling systems, as the name suggests, allow for the production and application of labels in a single process. The labeling machine used in these cases is the label printer and dispenser.

Only-apply systems consist of labeling machines whose sole task is to apply labels on items. The labels are previously manufactured and loaded into the machine, which then applies them in an automated manner. The label dispenser is the machine used in these cases.

Finally, labeling systems that do not require the autonomous production of labels consist of machines that can directly mark the items (usually with ink). Drop-on-demand inkjet printers and laser markers are the two labeling machines used in these cases.
