Part-printed labels are labels supplied in part-printed form so that only additional variable information, such as best before dates or logos, needs to be added.
Part-printed labels are produced in accordance with the stipulations of customers and tend to be bespoke in nature.
The purpose of part-printed labels is to give the manufacturer the opportunity to customize it at a later stage by printing additional elements on the label (for example, a barcode). This is especially important for manufacturers who need to print dynamic elements on their labels.
Compared to other types of labels, part-printed labels have several advantages, including the following:
Because of their nature, part-printed labels are manufactured in a slightly different way than other more traditional labels.
The first step in the manufacturing process consists in designing the part-printed label. However, and unlike other labels, the design of part-printed labels always leaves room for customization at a later stage. This may be done by leaving a white space on the label that the manufacturer will later use to print an additional element (e.g. a shipping number, a QR code).
Once the design is ready, the part-printed label is printed with the help of a label printer. After the printing process is complete, the manufacturer only has to print the additional element on the white space left for customization and apply the label on a product or package.
