Sheet labels
The labels on "single sheets" (sheet labels) are available on sheets in standardised formats such as DIN A3, A4, A5 and others.
These formats follow a fixed standard: the smaller the number after the "A", the larger the sheet. With ascending numbers, the sheet area of each format doubles, which provides a simple and clear size structure.
Using sheet labels
Sheet labels are used primarily for laser and inkjet printers, as these printing systems ensure precise results on individual sheets. The flat arrangement of the labels on sheets facilitates both the printing process and handling. They are ideal for applications where shorter print runs or manual finishing are required, for example in offices, small businesses or for individual labelling requirements.
Selection of label sizes
The range of label sizes for standard sheet labels is limited to proven dimensions. These are based on the so-called ‘benefit’: the aim is to make optimal use of the available space on a sheet in order to accommodate as many labels as possible. Various factors play a role here:
1. label width:
Particularly for address labels or similar applications, an A4 sheet (210 mm wide) can be divided into two to three columns. The label width must be chosen so that there is sufficient space for the required information, while the labels are easy to print and apply.
2. height of the labels:
Height is also a determining factor. It must ensure that the labels are easy to read and handle without inefficiently using the sheet's surface area.
3. Gaps:
There are usually small spaces between the labels on a sheet to allow for clean printing and easy removal. These spaces are also taken into account when planning the label sizes.
Advantages of sheet labels
- Flexibility: Standardised formats and sizes make sheet labels highly versatile, whether for address labels, product labelling or other applications.
- Cost efficiency: Optimised use of space ensures low material costs.
- Printability: Laser and inkjet printers can easily process the sheets, ensuring high print quality.
- Manual application: Sheet-fed labels are particularly suitable for small print runs or individual projects, as they can be easily processed by hand.
Special requirements
In addition to standard sizes, custom solutions are also possible. If special dimensions or properties, such as water- or oil-resistant materials, are required, sheet labels can be adapted accordingly. This makes them a flexible and adaptable solution for a wide range of applications.
Overall, sheet labels offer an ideal combination of standardisation, efficiency and flexibility that is convincing in both small and medium-sized production environments.
