Case study on labelling and marking - Cellpack
Labelling to the power of 3

Cellpack Electrical Products

Cellpack Electrical Products develops and manufactures cable connection systems and accessories for low and medium voltages up to 42 kV. Cellpack products not only stand for high product quality made in Germany. Standard products and customised solutions must be available worldwide at short notice. Cellpack therefore relies on marking solutions from Bluhm Weber Group for its flexible and efficient production processes. Three different technologies are used here.

Cellpack Electrical Products, a medium-sized company belonging to the Behr Bircher Cellpack (BBC) Group in Villmergen (Switzerland), has been developing and manufacturing cable connection systems and accessories for low and medium voltages up to 42 kV for 50 years. Production takes place mainly at the German sites in Waldshut-Tiengen and Radeberg. With its own sales companies in many countries, the company is a reliable partner for energy supply and distribution, for electrical retailers, specialist tradesmen and the electronics industry.

1. Labelling with robots: Alpha Compact

The labelling of 2-chamber bags for casting resins is fully automated: the labels printed with the relevant hazard symbols and multilingual instructions are loaded in advance into two Alpha Compact label dispensers. A robot arm picks the bags from the conveyor belt after they have been produced and places them centrally between the two label dispensers. The Alpha Compact systems apply the labels to the front and back of the bags using the contactless TampBlow process. The robot arm then places the labelled bags in a discharge tray.

2. Printing tubes: Linx inkjet printers

Cellpack produces heat-shrinkable tubing for low and medium voltage applications on several production lines. Immediately after manufacture, these heat-shrinkable tubes are printed with the company name, article designation and production code by a Linx inkjet printer. As the tubes are black, the Bluhm Weber Group experts recommended a white pigmented ink that provides a high contrast to the dark background.

3. Labelling cardboard boxes: Markoprint iJET inkjet printer

Labels are often used to mark cardboard boxes. However, direct printing is simpler and more cost-effective. Cellpack uses the Markoprint iJET thermal inkjet printer from Bluhm Weber Group for this purpose – a particularly fast device that can print on absorbent surfaces with a very high resolution of up to 600 dpi. The print image produced by the iJet therefore easily stands up to comparison with a label. The print images can be designed and sent to the printer using the i-Design software.
