How safety labels can help secure goods

The life of a label seems simple. A label obviously sticks to a packaging or product and serves only to display information. But safety labels are much more than that!

Safety labels are equipped with certain features so that even when they are exposed to high temperature fluctuations, shocks or tip-over damage, they remain as tight as when they were applied. They can also save employees a lot of time when looking for culprits in case of complaints about products.

First safety feature: The temperature sensor

Safety labels are calibrated to a unique temperature value. As soon as this specified value is exceeded or fallen below, the display surface changes color within milliseconds.

The color change is irreversible. This makes the label suitable for products that absolutely must maintain a constant temperature, such as foodstuffs, chemicals, medicines or paint.

Second safety feature: The shock indicator

Sensitive equipment or goods should be handled and transported with the utmost care so that they reach their destination undamaged. The shock indicator of a safety label immediately points out if the load has not been transported in the right way, allowing transporters to detect damage at each transfer point.

Third safety feature: The tilt indicator

If a package is marked THIS SIDE UP, this position must be maintained throughout the supply chain. Otherwise there is a risk of e.g. liquid leakage or accessories shifting. However, the tilt indicator detects the tilt angle and the safety label changes color as soon as it is exceeded.

Fourth safety feature: The humidity indicator

If a certain moisture level is exceeded or not reached, the moisture indicator in the safety label will indicate this by different degrees of discoloration.

The moisture indicator is mainly used to show the density of the pack or to check and adjust the amount of desiccant.

Reasons to start using safety labels

Safety labels have several advantages. They help to considerably reduce the workload of the staff handling complaints or product recalls. At each loading and unloading station they “prove” that the goods have been transported correctly. Violations are immediately detected, making long discussions or lawsuits about the cause or culprit unnecessary.
