Coop has the densest retail outlet network in Switzerland. The distribution center in Schafisheim not only houses the Coop bakery, but also a distribution center for frozen products. From the local high-bay warehouse alone, around 200 pallets full of goods are delivered to Coop stores every day. Logistics labeling with systems from Weber Marking Systems guarantees the smooth handling of this logistical feat.
Two-sided pallet labeling as logistics identification
The pallets are labeled on both sides with several data in clear text and encrypted as a 128 barcode. Part of this 18-digit code is the SSCC – Serial Shipping Container Code. With the help of this information, the pallets can be marked in a GS1-compliant manner and clearly identified worldwide. But the SSCC is also suitable for intralogistic purposes. It helps with internal pallet management. For this purpose, Coop uses two Legi-Air 4050 P pallet labelers from Weber Marking Systems. In Schafisheim, they label about 20 pallets per hour simultaneously from the front and back in teamwork. At peak performance, they could label up to 240 pallets per hour from both sides. This corresponds to four pallets per minute. The pallets do not have to stop for this. Labeling takes place in a continuous flow.
Product labeling with QR code
In the national distribution center for frozen products, ambient temperatures range from minus 5 to minus 23 degrees Celsius. The frozen products’ labeling is also fully automatic. For this purpose, 4 Legi-Air 4050 E print & apply systems identificate boxes with a QR code.
Foil printing in the largest bakery in Switzerland
Coop operates the largest bakery in Switzerland at its Schafisheim location. Here, too, identification technology from Weber Marking Systems is used. A Linx Continuous Inkjet printer marks the films with which the baked goods are wrapped with an SSCC number in alphanumeric form. The printer not only has to cope with temperature fluctuations, but also achieve an abrasion-resistant print result on the smooth film and at the same time provide food-safe marking.
