A tag label is a special type of label where the label information is printed over a tag.
A wide range of materials can be used to produce tag labels. The most common types of material include paper, cardboard or plastic film.
Companies use tag labels for several purposes, including the following:
The information contained in a tag label depends on the purpose for which the label was printed.
Tag labels often contain information about a product. This includes the name of the product’s manufacturer, the ingredients used to manufacture the product or its price. Information about how the product must be used (e.g. the temperature at which it should be cooked or washed) can also be found on tag labels.
On other occasions, tag labels contain a unique code that identifies the product to which it is attached. This unique code usually consists of a barcode or a data matrix code and can be used to identify the product’s manufacturer or the location where it was produced.
Tag labels often also contain information about a special offer (e.g. a discount).
The first step to produce a tag label consists in manufacturing the material that will serve as a label.
Once the material is produced, information is printed over it. The process of printing the information is usually carried out with the help of a label dispenser. Sometimes, however, a label is first manufactured using a label printer and then applied to the material.
