A fiber laser is a type of laser that beams light in a more concentrated way. In particular, fiber lasers create and amplify the light beam inside a flexible optical glass fiber, making it more compact and powerful than other types of lasers.

When it comes to industrial labeling, fiber lasers are used in two different ways:

• Direct part marking: here the laser is used to directly mark a surface. The great advantage of this solution is that no label is required. As a result, product manufacturers can reduce labeling costs.

• Label marking: in this case, the laser marks a laser-markeable label. The label is usually made of multi-layered acrylic or polyimide film. Once the laser marking is over, the label can be applied to the intended surface.

• No consumables: fiber lasers not only eliminate the need of labels, they also eliminate the need of inks.

• Increased speed: since no labels have to be marked and/or applied, the marking process happens a lot faster than usual.

• Low maintenance: since no labels or inks are used, there is no need to change cartridges or label rolls.
