Laser marker

A laser marker (sometimes also called laser engraver) is a device used to mark items or products with the help of a laser beam.

The activity of marking items or products with a laser is, in turn, known as laser marking.

A laser marker has at least two components: a controller and a laser beamer.

The controller is a machine that controls the intensity, speed and direction of the laser beam. In this sense, the controller is a sort of computer in which the settings of the laser beamer are configured.

The laser beamer, on the other hand, is the component of the laser marker responsible for beaming the laser over the surface that is going to be marked. Once the laser interacts with the surface, it changes its properties and appearance, resulting in the desired marking.

Laser markers can mark a wide range of surfaces, including:

• Copper.
• Glass.
• Wood.
• Steel.

In addition to these materials, laser markers can also mark paper, plastic or cardboard.

The greatest advantage of laser markers is that, unlike label printers or inkjet printers, they do not require the use of inks or any other similar substances to mark a surface. This way, manufacturers can save the costs associated with the buying of inks and solely rely on lasers for their marking.
