Which labeling procedure should you choose?
From logos and quality marks to barcodes and lot numbers, a wide range of information can be marked on wood. Which technique is most suitable depends on various factors, such as:
- What are the production conditions in the company?
- What is the (desired) production speed?
- Is the wood untreated or is it varnished wood?
- Is the surface rather smooth or very uneven?
- Should the lettering be particularly scratch-resistant and UV-resistant?

Labeling wood with ink
The inexpensive direct inscription with ink can achieve very good results. It is important that the inkjet printers have an appropriate IP protection class in order to withstand dust. Inkjet printers with the IP code 65 are dustproof and protected against water jets.
Marking wood with laser
Laser marking on wood is extremely durable, as it is not only water and abrasion resistant, but also withstands more aggressive surface treatments (such as bleach).
Label wood products
If the surface is extremely rough, uneven or irregular in color and machine-readable barcodes are to be applied, labels are a good choice. In the case of particularly sensitive materials, the label can be blown off by the labeling machine without contact.
