Weber Marking Systems Label Printer Applicators Mark Quality-Tested Hauff Technik Sealing Systems

Legi-Air 4050 S “stamps on” Hauff seal of approval

The entries used for gas, water and power must meet specific safety criteria. Besides being water, gas and fire-proof, they must also keep dirt and bugs at bay at the same time. The Hauff Technik building entry systems fully meet these requirements. At the company’s site in Hermaringen, they are reliably and permanently labelled by Weber Marking Systems label printer applicators. The law requires safe and leak-proof building entries to hook up buildings to the local gas, water, power supplies and the telecommunication network. Hauff Technik GmbH & Co. KG is a leading European manufacturer of seal systems for cables and pipes and building entries. Its clients include utility companies, municipal utilities, telecommunication companies and specialist retailers. 210 employees work to produce, among other things, several variants of buildings entries. Hauff’s single building entry is used to supply a house with one utility. The compact multi-service building entry enables supply lines for several utilities.

    Challenge

    • Use marking systems at any production site
    • Labels for components of different sizes
    • Multiple labels on one product
    • Prevent seal tampering

    Result

    • Label dispenser on rollable K-stands for flexible use
    • "Product nests" can hold components of different sizes
    • The modular Legi-Air 4050 S labelling system makes large dispensing strokes possible
    • Labels with predetermined breaking points as protection against manipulation

    Hauff Seal Marks Outstanding Quality

Hauff Technik produces all year long in a two-shift system. Some of the building-entry elements are manufactured in an injection-moulding process and automatically assembled. After extensive testing for quality and leak-proofness, every single product receives a square Hauff seal along with a certification and order number. Several Legi-Air 4050 S label printer applicators from the portfolio of Weber Marking Systems from Rheinbreitbach by Bonn apply the labels.

“We wanted to use the devices at any production station without needing to be tied into the computer system,” explains Tobias Kittlaus, Hauff Technik production planning employee. “Weber Marking Systems recommended label printers with intelligent printing modules that are installed on a wheeled stand. Now our workers just grab a label printer applicator and roll it over to where they are working. They can immediately start labelling!” Built-in nests fit various sizes of entry elements. They were custom-made and ensure that every product – from little front panels to large anchor plates and giant multiple-source building entries – is always in the right position for labelling.

Data Selection Straight from the Printing Module

Print layouts for the various Hauff seals were stored in the printing module in advance. Before employees start labelling, they choose the desired layout at the printing module and then enter the order number and print quantity. Printing starts at the press of a button. The printed labels are moved to the tamp one by one and held there by suction.

Workers place the element into the nest and then start the labelling process by pressing two switches. The double set of switches increases work safety by ensuring that there are no hands in the labelling zone during active labelling. Either way, the labeller would not cause serious injuries as the force of the compressed air used to move the tamp is limited to 5 kg. After employees activate the two switches, the tamp with the freshly printed label extends until a built-in sensor detects the top of the products. The tamp stops a few millimetres away from the product and blows the label on without touching it. The system easily labels products of different heights thanks to this sensor.

    Multiple Seals for One Product

Some Hauff products are labelled twice. Building entries get a Hauff seal and a sticker with the certification and order number. As programmed in the print layout, the two label types are printed in alternating order. After application of the first label, the product is turned by 45 degrees in the nest before the second label can go on.

The Legi-Air 4050 S is a label printer applicator with a modular build that can be adapted to a wide range of requirements and diverse environments. It can come with giant applicators spanning 1,140 millimetres, super-fast replacements of printing modules or blow pads for labelling at lightning speed. At Hauff, both the labellers and the labels themselves come from the Weber Marking Systems portfolio. “That’s a huge advantage” says Tobias Kittlaus. “The labels are tailored to our needs and are also processed seamlessly by the label printer applicators.”

Same High Quality as Used for Type Labels

The labels are made of transparent polyester film and backed with an extra-strong adhesive. These kinds of labels are often used as type labels. Their high quality makes them ideal for inside and outside uses and particularly resistant to moisture, water and oils. The labels are rip-proof and adhere well to curved surfaces. Perforations keep them from being removed. Trying to peel them off means they tear and leave visible adhesive on the product – a familiar phenomenon from toll labels or TÜV seals.
